Frame of Mind: Tory Burch

Patrice Grell Yursik of Afrobella.com and I have teamed up to bring you our recap of this year’s New York Fashion Week from the perspective of beauty and interior design.

Tory Burch is an American fashion designer who was born, raised and educated in Philadelphia. Her style has been coined “preppy boho” and that is exactly what she bought to the runway with her SS14 collection. Her garden party-themed collection featured greens, blues and whites.

For this design collage, I imagined a living room in which the primary color was white. A few home décor accent pieces bring some subtle color to the space. This room is fresh, jovial and sleek.

1. A small speck of blue can pack a punch for any room. The Arteriors Home Tennyson Turquoise Linen Stool available at Zinc Door is a hit.

2. Fans of the James Bond franchise would approve of this vase. The Octopussy vase from Creative Home Company is a great tabletop element.

3. The Shroom coffee table from CB2 makes a bold statement with it’s simplicity. A piece like this that is visually heavy will anchor a room.

4. Ray and Charles would be mad at me if I did not include their timeless piece in this design collage. The preppy factor of the Eames Lounge Chair is tennis-volley- high on the prep scale. The chair can be found at Design Within Reach.

5. The Georges and Zaza birds from CB2 add a little “boho” to offset all of the “prep”. Besides, the only way a prep would have a bird in their home is if it’s stitched onto their letter jacket.

6. In keeping with my design plan of all white furniture pieces, I needed a modern and classic seating option. The Whitaker Malibu Sand Sofa from Jonathan Adler is modern with a nod to the mid-century style.

7. For some color, I added some fabulous pillows including the Trina Turk Mojave Green embroidered pillow, the Trina Turk Holister Blue/Green pillow, and the Trina Turk Geometric Blue/Green pillow. I’ve also included a fabulous Trina Turk Merced Hook Green rug. All of these elements can be found at Zinc Door. I think Trina and Tory should be best friends. Their names are an alliteration after all.

8. I love the simplicity and volume of the 365 Brasa pendant lamp from Ikea. It comes in many colors, but of course for this design collage I choose white.

What do you think? We’d certainly love to hear your thoughts.

Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see another design collage inspired by the runway!
