Culture Pie: Herradura Barrel Art

Last night I attended the Tequila Herradura’s Barrel Art exhibition. One of the final stages of Herradura’s process in making its tequila includes aging it in an oak barrel. As part of this exhibition, Herradura asked artists across to country to transform the barrels into art.

A jury selects one barrel from ten artists showcasing at various regions across the country. That artist is awarded $10,000 and an invitation to showcase their “barrel art” in the final competition that will take place in Miami. The winner of that final competition will be awarded $100,000.

Attendees were invited to partake in Herradura’s crafted cocktails, view the art, and vote for their favorite barrel art.

One highlight of this evening, for me, was running into one of my favorite chefs, James Beard winner and owner of Frontera and Topolobampo restaurants, Rick Bayless!
