Frame of Mind: Reem Acra

Patrice Grell Yursik of and I have teamed up to bring you our recap of this year’s New York Fashion Week from the perspective of beauty and interior design.

Reem Acra, a native of Beirut, Lebanon, is a fashion designer living and working in America. Known for her bridal and evening wear, her SS14 collection was inspired by disco glamour and the nightlife.

For this design collage, I imagined a VIP room of an elite nightclub and pulled inspiration from the colors of Acra’s SS14 collection. I also decided to add some unusual pieces that you may not expect to see in just any room.

1. I may not have a disco ball, but the Dru Sculpture from Arteriors Home is just as interesting.

2. Sleek, comfortable and very sexy chairs are essential to any VIP room. The Calvin Black chair, from Zinc Door, oozes sexiness while maintaining class.

3. One of my favorite pieces of design include the Les Lalanne desk called Secrétair Deuxième Rhinoceros. There is one currently on display at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. This desk has also been shown as a bar cart. I’d “work” from it and then promptly pull my bottle(s) of wine as soon as I’m done “working”.

4. Sweet and whimsical bar accessories, like the Feather Bottle opener from Cost Plus World Market, are nice additions to the bar.

5. The DL Rhein Arches Grey embroidered pillow from Zinc Door and the Brass Stud pillow from Jayson Home are plush essentials for this room.

6. I have a friend who has an antique tuba sitting in the corner of his room, minding it’s own business. My nosy self had to walk over and take a closer look because  it’s such a completely cool and unexpected element to have in a room. He got the tuba from an auction but you can find one on

7. While the dress is brassy and all kinds of sassy, there is a little bit of antique brass in the sequins as well (which tends to be darker, more grey version of a bright brass color). I wanted to pull those small details out through the Mason Wide Pendant from Arteriors Home. This pendant light ties the entire room together!

What do you think? We’d certainly love to hear your thoughts.

Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see another design collage inspired by the runway!
