Culture Pie: Foreign Exchange

Yesterday Foreign Exchange, the Grammy-nominated music group consisting of rapper/singer/songwriter Phonte (formerly of the group Little Brother) and Dutch producer Nicolay, released their newest album, Love in Flying Colors. The album follows their previous releases of Authenticity (2010) and Leave It All Behind (2008)

With a jazzy, hip-hop alternative feel (à la Digable Planets, Karriem Riggins, Thievery Corporation, and Jamiroquai), the members of Foreign Exchange are proving once again that they are breaking the barriers of what “urban music” truly represents. Love in Flying Colors is a bowl of gumbo with the savory ingredients of R&B, rap, soul, alternative, and even classical genres seeped in a roux of deliciousness.
